Several Star Wars animated films are said to be in development at Lucasfilm
A new rumor has surfaced suggesting fans of war of stars The animation will be very happy in the future. Animation was an important part of the franchise for a long time, but it became a real pillar when Star Wars: The Clone Wars went on air in 2008. Now, if this fancy new rumor is to be believed, Lucasfilm is getting ready to branch out into the world of animated features. Several projects are currently under development.
*Is looking around*
As far as I know, they are doing more and are actively working on a few animated “films”.

We have to point out that this is just a rumor that is aligned with Star Wars Day and should be treated as such. That said, Cinelix editor-in-chief Jordan Maison recently posted a mini-review on Twitter of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the new animated series that was just debuting on Disney +. The series premiere lasted a whopping 70 minutes, making it essentially a short film. At the end of his thread, Maison decided to drop an alleged knowledge bomb at his followers, and said the following.
“* Looking around * As far as I know, they are doing more and actively working on a few animated ‘films’.”
If we assume that this is true for a moment, it would make a lot of sense. Lucasfilm’s first foray into animated Star Wars films, admittedly, didn’t go well. The Clone Wars started with a movie in 2008, as fans may remember. It received critical criticism and made a total of just $ 68 million at the box office, by far the lowest total for any movie in the franchise. Anyway, it served as a stepping stone for the show, which lasted seven seasons and has delivered some of the most popular stories in this universe to date. It also paved the way for Star Wars Rebels, who are also highly valued by the fan base.
Announced by Disney, Star Wars: A Droid Story is an animated film produced exclusively for Disney + by Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm Animation. At the time of the announcement, they stated, “As Lucasfilm continues to create new stories, the interface between animation and visual effects offers us new ways to explore. This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero led by our most famous duo on a secret mission known only to them. What could possibly go wrong? ”The film will introduce a new character, led by R2-D2 and C-3PO. No other Star Wars animated films have been announced for Disney + at this time. Presumably, the animated films mentioned in this new rumor are intended for theatrical distribution and will be played on the big screen at the local cineplex.
With animation, Lucasfilm could explore ideas that are too risky or simply not feasible in live action. Warner Bros. regularly explores ideas within the DC Universe through animated films that are quite good for them. There’s no reason Disney couldn’t do the same with Star Wars. If so, however, there are still many questions to be answered.
For one, what stories will these alleged animated films include? Will they be spin-offs with characters already known? Or do you dare to venture into completely unknown territory? It’s also not clear how they would be released, be it on Disney + or in theaters. Though Vegas would likely favor a streaming release as The Mandalorian breathed new life into Star Wars and helped make Disney + a huge hit at launch. Another question that remains is why Jordan Maison put the word “movies” in quotation marks in his original post. If so, hopefully we should hear something official sooner rather than later. We will keep you updated as more details become available. You can check out the post for yourself on Jordan Maison’s Twitter.
