Lorde declares new photograph guide
Lorde has announced a new 100-page photo book. GOING SOUTH compiles images from her 2019 trip to the Antarctic together with a font by the artist. Lorde announced the book in a newsletter sent to fans today (November 24th). GOING SOUTH can be pre-ordered here. The first 500 copies contain a postcard signed by Lorde. The photos in GOING SOUTH were taken by Lorde's friend Harriet Were.
The exact publication date of the book was not included in Lorde's newsletter. "We're making pre-orders to get an idea of how many to produce so that it doesn't arrive by Christmas, I wouldn't think," she said. The newsletter also contained updates on her native New Zealand vegetable garden and a few words about her trip to Antarctica, but no news about upcoming music. All net proceeds from GOING SOUTH will go to a scholarship fund for a postgraduate from Antarctica in New Zealand to study the science of climate change.
"When I went to Antarctica, I hadn't started writing again after finishing melodrama," wrote Lorde in her newsletter. She continued:
After the trip, I realized that my brain longed to visit another realm. Albums live in their own areas in a way, and Antarctica really acted as that great white pallet cleaner, sort of a heavenly foyer that I had to walk through to do the next one. On the plane that came ashore I had this very intense lightning fast thought that in all its eloquence was literally "DO NOT TAKE SHIT RECORDS" lol. I will always cherish this trip as a highlight of my life for many reasons, but I am especially grateful that it showed me the beginnings of the new world that I am continuing to build, and I look forward to showing it to you soon.
Lorde released Melodrama back in 2017. In her May newsletter, she said that work on a new album was in full swing. "The job is so damn good my friend," she wrote. "I'm really excited that you hear it."
