Halloween fan passes moments after Jamie Lee Curtis formally celebrates his wedding ceremony
A terminally ill Halloween Superfan was able to fulfill his dream wedding wish less than an hour before his death. Anthony Woodle, a 29-year-old aspiring filmmaker, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer last year. Through Rough House Productions, a South Carolina-based production company that helped revive the Halloween franchise, Woodle had connected with Curtis and told the actress about his health and plans to marry longtime girlfriend Emilee. Curtis personally offered to officiate the wedding and a date was set for September 13th.
On the day of the wedding, Woodle's health began to decline rapidly. With Emilee by his side and Woodle's family surrounded by a bed he was lying in, the ceremony began at 10:30 pm. this night with Jamie Lee Curtis officiate by phone.
"Anthony and Emilee, all someone is promised is this moment," Curtis said on the call. "We live and we love in this moment. May the blessings of God rest on you, may his peace remain with you, may your spirit illuminate your heart now, in this moment. With the power transmitted to me through the Internet, It is my great pleasure to tell you that you are now married. ”Less than an hour later, at 11:17 p.m., Woodle was pronounced dead.
Woodle and Emilee were also among the first to see the finished cut of the upcoming sequel Halloween Kills, which the rest of us won't be able to see until October 2021. Prior to the wedding, director David Gordon Green had arranged a private screening for the couple to see, and the experience gave Woodle some much-needed joy at a very difficult time. "That was the best thing I've seen him smile during and after the movie," said Emilee.
Woodle and Emilee, who had been together for eight years and shared a love of horror films and Halloween, first met at a concert in 2013. Every year they adorned their North Charleston home extravagantly for any trick or treating season. They would also use their love for the spooky vacation to help others, as their garden decoration would include placing an open coffin in the front yard to encourage donated food to be taken to a local food bank.
Of course, Woodle suggested Emilee on Halloween 2016; He was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer three years later, also on Halloween. In 2020, the couple had initially set October 31 as their wedding date, but when Woodle's health deteriorated, the date was postponed to September 13. After his death, Emilee called Curtis to tell her the news and thanked her for making Woodle's last moments so special. The two stay in contact.
Although Woodle is gone, his memory lives on through the people who loved him most. Emilee said she still felt his spirit, for example when she decorated the house for Halloween in Woodle's honor. His mother, father and sister also got matching tattoos that read "Every day is Halloween".
