Disneyland Resort’s Avengers Campus finally has a new opening date
In March 2020, Disney announced that the long-awaited new land at Disney California Adventure, Avengers Campus, will finally open in July. Unfortunately, it wasn’t announced until a few days later that Disneyland Resort would be closing due to the global pandemic. The park would remain closed for over a year but is now set to reopen on April 30th. However, Marvel fans have still been waiting to know when the Avengers Campus will open. Today Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, announced during a special virtual event with Kevin Feige, director of Marvel Studios, that the new land is due to open on June 4th.
Josh D’Amaro joked with Kevin Feige that he wanted to open the new Marvel country on Feige’s birthday, but that opening the new country on a Wednesday, since Feige’s birthday is June 2nd, wouldn’t work. Instead, the Avengers Campus will open two days after Kevin Feige’s birthday on June 4th. This means that those guests who want to return to Disneyland immediately after its opening will miss out, but those who are willing to wait a while will see something very special.
It’s really great for Disneyland Resort to announce the opening of the Avengers Campus now. Tickets for the park’s reopening are slated to go on sale in less than two weeks. The expectation is certainly that there will be a lot of people trying to get hold of these tickets and reservations. And most of them are more likely to go to Disneyland than California Adventure. The resort’s second gate has always been an afterthought, although it has improved a lot in recent years.
But this announcement has the potential to spread the love a bit. Some people want to book the first available parking reservations; others may be planning a trip for June rather than early May. Many will want to book a reservation at Disneyland, but once the Avengers campus opens, many more people will be planning on visiting Disney California Adventure. This will help to even out the crowds in the two parks and possibly take some of the load off the reservation system.
The new land will feature two attractions, Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, which includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, and a themed area by Doctor Strange that, oddly enough, we don’t know much about right now. A major e-ticket attraction is planned for the second phase of the new country, with guests piloting an Avengers Quinjet.
Star Wars fans were given their own planet to explore when Galaxy’s Edge opened less than two years ago. Now those whose fandom is shifting more towards Marvel have their own new land to experience. We are less than two months away, which makes it very exciting. I can not wait any longer
