David Fitzgerald, unique guitarist of the Telescopes, useless on the age of 54

David Fitzgerald, the first guitarist for British shoegaze band The Telescopes, has died of cancer, Wrong Way Records' Al Boyd told Pitchfork. He was 54 years old.

Stephen Lawrie founded the Telescopes in 1986 in Burton-upon-Trent, England. David Fitzgerald started out as the band's bass player before switching to guitar. He played on Telescopes' first two albums – 1989 & # 39; s Taste and 1992 & # 39; s The Telescopes – before the band first split up.

In recent years, David Fitzgerald has performed with his band The Junkyard Liberty. They released their debut Chains in 2016 (via Wrong Way). With Junkyard Liberty, Fitzgerald released a cover of the 1989 B-side of Telescope's "This Is the Last of Whats Coming Now". The telescopes shared the cover in honor of Fitzgerald. "Infinite love," they wrote.
